Updated: Aug 16, 2023

Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and its Institute for Translational and Emerging Research for Advanced Comparative Therapy (INTERACT) are excited to welcome Nobel Laureate Dr. Bruce Beutler on Oct. 12.

Beutler will make the keynote address at INTERACT’s first research symposium at 11 a.m. at The McKnight Center on the OSU Stillwater campus. The symposium begins at 8 a.m. and will be live-streamed by OState TV from The McKnight Center. All are invited to tune in to hear the latest research from OSU, as well as Dr. Beutler at OStateTV.

Beutler made landmark discoveries concerning the activation of innate immunity in defense against microbial infection earning him the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. He is currently the director of the Center for the Genetics of Host Defense at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

“We are honored to host Dr. Beutler on the OSU campus. His presence will inspire our students and faculty members, and support our research missions,” said Dr. Kayse Shrum, OSU's president.

Echoing similar views, Dr. Carlos Risco, dean of the veterinary college, and INTERACT director Dr. Ashish Ranjan commended the INTERACT organizing committee for securing Beutler’s speakership and putting together an impressive list of talks from faculty members of various OSU colleges including: the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology; the College of Arts and Sciences; the OSU Center for Health Sciences; and the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The INTERACT symposium team organizing this event includes: Giovanna Paloma, Drs. Joao Brandao, Clinton Jones, Todd Holbrook, Véronique Lacombe, Jerry Malayer, Fabio Pinaffi, Jennifer Rudd and Joshua Butcher all from the College of Veterinary Medicine; Tyrrell Conway from the College of Arts and Sciences; Josh Ramsey from the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology; and Dolores Vazquez-Sanroman with the School of Biomedical Sciences at OSU Center for Health Sciences.
